In my help attempt at saving its life, I was forced to reconcile with college one of my best friends in a tragic accident years ago. Haunted with guilt, I sought to college how brainstorming with newfound respect and love, and learned the importance of family. This created a passion for medicine and immunology, and now I want to become an essay so no other child will have to feel the same.

In order to do that, answer this question: out of all the options, what story would you most like to read and why? Then use that answer to write that story. Paint a picture for the reader. Some of the best stories paint pictures. Let your personality and true character shine through. Use your writing to take them on a journey, without exaggerating or lying of course. Keep it simple. One of the most basic yet effective rules of life. The goal here is not to sound like you already graduated college. Get it all down. The brainstorming process, in order for it to be truly effective, has to be one devoid of self-criticism and judgment. You never know which ideas are going to spark inspiration for others, so as you begin to come up with topics, take notes on everything. Give yourself some time to cultivate and build upon your initial thoughts. When do you go there, and what do you use it for? What is your least favorite corner of, or space in, the place where you live? Why do you dislike it? What do you associate it with? If you had to repeat a day over and over, like the movie Groundhog Day, what day would it be? If you'd pick a day from your life that has already happened, why would you want to be stuck it in? To relive something great? To fix mistakes? If you'd pick a day that hasn't yet occurred, what would the day you were stuck in be like? If you could go back in time to give yourself advice, when would you go back to? What advice would you give? What effect would you want your advice to have? For Matilda, the main challenge of time travel was packing. Just how do you fit one of those giant Elizabethan ruffle collars into a carry-on? Brainstorming Technique 4: Answer Thought-Provoking Questions If you could take a Mulligan and do over one thing in your life, what would it be? Would you change what you did the first time around? Or, if you could take another crack at doing something again, what would you pick? Something positive — having another shot at repeating a good experience? Something negative — getting the chance to try another tactic to avoid a bad experience? Which piece of yourself could you never change while remaining the same person? Your race? Sense of humor? Which of your beliefs, ideas, or tastes puts you in the minority? What are you most frightened of? What are you not frightened enough of? What is your most treasured possession? What would you grab before running out of the house during a fire? Is it an extension of something you already do? Something you plan on learning in the future? Which traditions that you grew up with will you pass on? Which will you ignore? Finnigan couldn't wait to introduce his future children to his family's birthday tradition - lemons. Why these three? Least proud of? When did you last exhibit this trait? Writers must choose one from each pile. They cannot change the prompts, but they may choose which to write about first. The challenge is the writers must find some way to address the prompts, even if it seems silly or far fetched and even if they would never choose it in real life. Set the timer for five to 10 minutes and have writers write anything that comes to mind. Then repeat for the second prompt. When time is up, everyone should read their essays aloud or pass their papers around the circle.
